Is War A License?
They shot little Timmy,
They killed him he’s dead.
His life quickly stolen,
through a hole in the head.
They killed Sergeant Thomas,
a sniper last night.
It came from the shadows,
not even a fight.
They imprisoned poor Paddy,
behind a big iron door.
But it isn’t a problem.
just all part of war.

Another poem about war or civil unrest and another poem about the tragic loss of human life.
When I was growing up I was taught that there are always two sides to every argument. The last two verses of this poem reflect the scenes and stories I heard about Ireland and I have tried to ensure that this poem includes both sides of the argument. But you know I don’t think there are two sides to an argument. I think there are three sides to every argument…
God’s, Man’s, and Satan’s.
The graphic I have chosen to accompany this poem reflects the first verse of this poem and when you include the first verse and consider the graphic perhaps the fact that there are three sides to an argument becomes even more poignant.
